Modified Burpees

In this video my wife shows a technique to modify the burpee and mountain climber exercises for those that are not physically conditioned enough to do the technique correctly.

She uses a chair to help as she shows the modified burpees exercise.

The reason someone modifies the exercise is not because they are lazy, it is actually the opposite.  A person modifies when they are attempting to do something they cannot do in order to better themselves.

The modify the technique to make it doable, and as they progress and become better and more physically fit they eventually are able to do the unmodified technique.  At that point they stop doing modified burpees and actually perform the exercise correctly.

In the space of a year Genny has gone from modifying everything to performing all the exercises correctly.  Her body has changed shape, she is more confident, and is a much happier person.  I am proud of her, and a little jealous of her determination.

She is not a new person but she is a better version of herself.  It is not because of her looks, but the way her stronger body makes her feel.  When she began this process she kept calling it a lifestyle change and I did not believe her.  I do now.

Genny is making berry butter.  As she says in the video, the recipe is forgiving, you can use almost any amount of fruit or butter to add or subtract from the flavors you desire.

Its pretty simple to make.  It is not as easy as my honey butter recipe, and I don’t use it as much, but for a treat it can’t be beat.

Ingredients

  • One cup of frozen blackberries, but you can use any fruit.  The frozen fruit thawed to about a half cup.
  • One tablespoon of honey
  • 2 Sticks of unsalted butter (softened)

Procedure:

  • Mix ingredients until the butter is light, airy, and well mixed
  • Next place a sheet of alumium foil on a cutting board
  • Place a sheet of plastic wrap over the foil
  • Spoon the berry butter onto the plastic wrap and shape into a log.
  • Roll the butter into a log by wrapping the plastic and foil around it.
  • Twist one end of the log shut
  • Like making sausage tighten the other end in the opposite direction which will compact the butter
  • Set the log in the refrigerator for a couple hours to let it firm up (Not strictly necessary)

This berry butter is GOOD.

Today’s post is more baby medicine. Not only is this Homemade Diaper Rash Cream a great ointment for diaper rash it can be also used as a full body cream as well as healing ointment.

All ingredients promote healing and healthy skin.

  • coconut oil – antiviral, antifungal, anti-yeast
  • olive oil – antibacterial, antioxidant
  • shea butter – anti-inflammatory, moisturizer
  • cocoa butter – antiseptic, moisturizer
  • beeswax – anti-inflammatory

Here is the procedure, and like the other ointments we have made it is not much more than melt and stir.

Ingredients

  • Coconut oil (all one ounce except the beeswax)
  • Olive oil
  • Shea butter
  • Cocoa butter
  • 1/2 ounce beeswax

Procedure

  • In double boiler, add all ingredients and heat until melted.
  • After all ingredients have melted take off heat and move to a container that is safe for mixing.
  • Mix well
  • Let the mixture cool.
  • Using a wisk, your stand mixer or handheld blender (not a regular blender), mix on high speed until completely cool and in “whip” form. (f your mixture is runny or not turning into solid form, add more beexwax or cocoa butter – both are solid at room temperature).

Use within one year of making this cream!
This cream is cloth diaper safe!

Our boy has not had any diaper rash problems, most of this is due to his mommy being fanatical about changing his diapers, but I like to think this cream also helps.

All Natural Breastfeeding Nipple Balm

My wife hates it when I talk about nipple balm in public, well I think its safe to say, everyone hates it when a overweight middle aged guy says nipple balm in public. However, in researching ways to help my wife as she fed our boy I learned ahow to make an all natural nipple balm for breastfeeding.

This comes from my experiments in using beeswax for other ointments and salves. However, because the boy may ingest some of this balm while eating, it does not have any beeswax in it because all beeswax has some trace amounts of honey, and honey may contain botulism spores, so babies should not be ingest honey until they are at least one year old.

This is a very simple product to make, and if you have made the lip balm you probably have all the ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Coconut Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Cocoa Butter

Procedure

  • Combine and melt equal portions of coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter.
  • Pour into a container and let cool (old baby food jars work great).

This makes a wonderfully moisturizing natural nipple cream. Coconut oil alone can often do the trick to soothing sore nipples. Apply liberally before and after nursing as desired. Completely safe for baby and moisturizing and healing for the breastfeeding mother.

I also use this on my feet and elbows and it works really well.
